No amount of superlatives are enough to describe 24 hours in the rollercoaster world that is Notts County.
On the back of the clubs worst run of form for two seasons and with off the field issues making the headlines for all the wrong reasons the prospect of facing one of the leagues title contenders was nothing short of daunting.
If you read my last missive following the draw at Altrincham you might remember my final thoughts on facing Sutton United and a reminder that football really is a funny old game, and as suggested this did turn out to be one of those games.
The win against Dagenham with 10 men earlier in the season remained quite possibly Notts' best performance of the season to date, but you could argue that the context of the win over Sutton and what it could do by means of reigniting the Magpies season at just the right time eclipses that Daggers demolition.
Anyway, enough of my yammering, lets get on with the stats.
Match stats below and ignoring the corner count, which in itself wasn't great for either team, Notts edged much of the game even when down to 10 men.
Progress updated and a move back up to 8th place.
Results tracker updated and nice to see some green back on the chart.
Points needed updated and the win sees Notts' predicted trendline back amongst the play off spots.
You can filter the chart by clicking on the legends at the top.
League segment chart updated. Grey bar shows total points available for that segment. Green bar shows total points gained and yellow bar the PPG for that segment.
5 Points in total from this 6 game segment recording just 0.833 PPG.
Points by time segment. How many points would have been accumulated if games had finished at 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 minutes.
Onto player stats now and remember you can find all the player stats on the website here.
Minutes played updated:
Goal contribution table updated. Again, you can find this on the website and sort columns etc.
Goals + assists above and despite the lack of starts Ruben Rodrigues is now 3rd in the goal participation ratings.
Goals scatter chart updated.
Goals by time segment updated.
Ian Burchnall's record updated after 11 games in charge.
xG report for the Sutton win and a reminder that penalties aren't included in the xG because it can often provide a disproportionate view of how a team performed. Additionally penalties can often be given without any attempt on goal being made.
xG key match stats and a game in which a draw would clearly have been a fair result. The penalty is added here for context and how it impacted on xPTS.
Player xG for the Sutton game and Wootton couldn't have asked for an easier opportunity to get back in the goals. Ruben Rodrigues' first goal was very well executed and he had a lot to do to score with an xG of just 0.05. Jimmy Knowles missed header in the first half was classed a big chance at 0.31.
Preview | Barnet (a) | Vanarama National League | 15:00
Saturday 8th May 2021 | The Hive
Notts make the trip down to The Hive on Saturday looking for back to back wins in the league and to further reinforce their intentions for a top 7 finish.
Current form radar below and the one metric where Barnet stand out is last 6 form where they have twice as many points as Notts from the last 6 games, including a win away at Weymouth on Monday.
Goals for/against by time segment for Barnet and it appears they are happy to concede goals any time during the 90 mins.
Lead status comparison and Barnet don't like to lead much do they!
Despite having lost in the last 4 visits to The Hive Notts are clear favourites with the bookies at 1/2 for the win.
You can get 9/2 on a Barnet win and you're looking at 3/1 for the draw.
Based on these odds Notts have a 67% chance of winning and Barnet a 17% chance of bagging the 3 points.
A win could see a move up to 6th for Notts depending on results for Wrexham and Bromley. Defeat could see a drop back down to 10th.
Notts will be full of confidence following the win over Sutton and should come out all guns blazing against a Barnet team who have conceded for fun this season.
However, The Bees have been in better form of late and Notts will have to guard against any complacency.
COYP!
