  • Boreham Wood 1 - 1 Notts County

  • Meadow Park

  • Attendance: 821

Despite going in a goal up at half time Notts were unable to capitalise on a solid first half performance.

It was a moment of quality that saw the Magpies take the lead with Ruben Rodrigues climbing highest in a crowded penalty area to head home Cal Roberts well taken free kick.

A moment of madness saw Boreham Wood's Tyrone Marsh poke home an equaliser after team mate Mark Rickets appeared to be playing basketball and not football as he 'helped' the ball somehow find it's way past a crowd of Notts players before falling invitingly for Marsh.

Notts rallied but were unable to find a winner with just one more attempt on goal being recorded by either team following the Wood equaliser.

Key match stats.

We are getting used to seeing Notts having the better of the construction actions in the middle of the stats charts and Tuesday night was no different.

Boreham Wood showed how direct they can be by outscoring Notts in the number of passes into the final third but the Magpies usual build up play meant they recorded more than double the amount of progressive passes than their hosts.

Nothing can indicate how tight a game this was like the xG which was the lowest recorded by Notts this season, but more on that later.

Goal scatter chart. If I get the time over the next couple of weeks I'll look to do the same for goals conceded as a comparison.

Expected goals. Errm . . .

The lowest xG recorded by Notts this season and the lowest match xG as well.

Of the 5 attempts for Boreham Wood only 4 of them actually recorded a value higher than 0.01. That said the highest xG attempt of the game fell to Wood's Tyrone Marsh on 30 mins where a wild swing with his right foot saw a 0.21 effort go high and wide from inside the penalty box.

Ruben Rodrigues' goal was actually the highest scoring xG value for Notts at just 0.08 which kind of tells you just how good a goal it was considering that historically chances from that position and situation are only expected to be converted 8 times in 100 attempts.

Notts' player xG for the match below.

Match xG and xPTS and it's fair to say a draw was the right result.
